About the data

All prices come from the government's Fuel Finder service, which fuel retailers are legally required to report to. We show prices exactly as published, together with the time the retailer last updated each one.

Searching by distance

Pages show every station within a chosen distance (from 3 to 25 miles) of a town or postcode, whichever council area it falls in. Distances are in a straight line, not by road. Postcode searches use the centre of the postcode district, so they are approximate.

How we calculate averages and rankings

Figures use the median price, which is not thrown off by a few unusually high or low prices. The "cheapest" rankings and the map use the same set of prices. They include open stations only, and exclude two kinds of price from the statistics: prices that look like entry errors, meaning more than 15% below or 30% above the UK median for that fuel (the upper limit is looser because islands and motorways genuinely cost more) or outside 100p to 300p per litre, which are marked "unusual", and prices the retailer hasn't updated for more than 30 days, which may no longer be accurate and are marked "out of date". Neither kind is hidden: they stay in the station lists exactly as published.

What we don't do

We don't hide, rank by commercial interest, or promote any retailer. Stations are listed cheapest first for the fuel you choose.

Official weekly averages

The weekly UK price charts on the home page are the one place that does not use Fuel Finder. They show the government's own weekly average pump price for unleaded petrol and diesel, from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's Weekly road fuel prices (official statistics), published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We show the figures exactly as published, once a week, on their own, and never mix them with the station prices on this site. They are a different measure, so they will not match our medians exactly. The charts for our own station data appear next to them once there are two weeks of it.

Spotted a mistake?

Please report the discrepancy to Fuel Finder so the retailer can correct it at source.
