Litrewise shows fuel prices. You don't need an account, and we don't ask you for your name, email address or any other personal details.

What stays on your device

We store a few preferences in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them: light or dark mode, the fuel you buy, and your tank size and fuel economy for the savings figures. After you search from a pin on another town's page, we also keep a short note so that page scrolls back to the map; it is deleted as soon as that page opens. They are never sent to us and you can clear them from your browser settings. We don't set cookies of our own.

Your location

If you press "Use my location", your browser asks for permission and then works out your position. We compare it with place locations inside your browser to choose a nearby town. The coordinates are kept in the part of the page address after the "#", which browsers do not send to servers, so we don't receive or store your position. If you drop a pin on a map to search from your own spot, it is stored the same way, and the pin is never sent to us. The map can also show a dot at your location if you press "Show my location" (or have already allowed location for this site); that position is only drawn in your browser and is not stored or sent.

If you search for a postcode we don't recognise, your browser sends only the first part of the postcode (for example "LS11") to postcodes.io to find its location.

Other services the site contacts

• Our hosting provider (Railway) and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site to speed it up and protect it, receive the usual technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, and keep standard server logs.
• OpenStreetMap supplies the map images shown on place pages, so it sees your IP address and the area you are viewing. See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
• Google Maps or Apple Maps opens only if you choose "Directions".

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It is designed not to use cookies or local storage and not to track you across other websites. See how it works. We don't currently use advertising; if that changes we will update this page and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Where the data comes from

Fuel prices and station details are published by retailers through the government's Fuel Finder service under the Open Government Licence. They describe businesses, not people.
